WORKING GROUPS
Simplefood Organic Food Co-op

When Simplefood was in operation, we acquired a space to store and distribute food on 109th street and 10008 ave.

SimpleFood Organic Buying Group was committed to the promotion and distribution of certified organically grown foods adhering to ethical and sustainable standards of production.

Simplefood was a fully volunteer run food buying group. We follow many of the guiding principles of a CO-OP however to officially call ourselves a CO-OP requires that we become incorporated (which we hope to eventually do!!). At present we order from two suppliers, Horizon (out of BC), and Grainworks (Vulcan, AB). Both distributors are certified organic. We currently carry only non-perishables food items. The SimpleFood Organic Foods Buying Club (SimpleFood) is an ambitious plan to bring high quality whole foods to the Edmonton community at the lowest possible cost. We feel that currently there are few suppliers of cheap whole foods and want to create a resource for people who want to eat these nutritious and untainted foods.

Our organization is a not-for-profit enterprise and the brainchild of several youth in the Edmonton Garneau/University community. Using skills and experiences acquired from diverse sources, SimpleFood draws upon the enthusiasm and energy of its volunteers to create its success. Using principles of direct democracy and consensus in its decision making, our corporate strategy is unique, and ensures continued commitment to our long term agenda.
Our group performs the function of collating and processing food orders, redistribution of purchased supplies and storing of excesses. you can access a copy of our food (and price) lists on the internet by going to the Simplefood webpage at www.apirg.org/simplefood

At this site you can also print off an order form, so you can fill everything out before dropping off your order at the APIRg office.
