National Liberate the Voice Campaign.

September 17 is the First Annual Liberate the Voice Day, a national day for the dissemination, exploration and celebration of spoken word.

In July 2005, 17 Canadian and international Spoken Word artists and organizers met in Banff to discuss the future of this exciting, yet under-represented genre. This group formed the Spoken Word Arts Network (SWAN), an artists' lobby group dedicated to two primary goals: to making connections between spoken word artists across Canada and internationally, and lobbying for better recognition, resources, and facilities for spoken word artists and organizers.
