University of Alberta Council of Canadians (U of A CoC)
Our group was created in response to our frustrations with the state of our government. With the hope that change is possible, the Council of Canadians University of Alberta Chapter is here to take a stand on important political, social, economic, environmental and yes even cultural issues.
The UofA CoC has been involved in several activities in the 2007/2008 University year. In October of 2007, we aided in organizing a Make Poverty History event called "Stand Up" with many other groups on campus. Our group is also involved in the creation of a campus coalition of social justice groups.
In November, APIRG sponsored our "Alternative Remembrance Day" Event in which we set out to redefine the way in which we remember violence in our world by constructing a world map of "conflict density", a path with footsteps, each imprinted with iconic images or quotes on war and violence, and an engaging and insightful powerpoint presentation. The event was held within Dinwoodie Lounge, and had great affect upon the attending.
Our future plans include taking a look at trade issues.
Join us to get involved and actualize your citizen rights by challenging the SPP, corporate unregulated development in the Tar Sands, TILMA ,and sadly much more.
In solidarity we can effect change!
